Civic Communication and Global Collaboration Program
On February 2026, DHLO launched a Civic Communication and Global Collaboration Program in partnership with Fairmount State University WV, US.
.
The goal of Civic Communication and Global Collaboration Program is to examine the role of communication in shaping civic life and addressing civic issues. The program explores civic communication across cultures through an interactive course between Ethiopian and US University Students. Participants engage in structured and collaborative problem-solving tasks that focus on issues relevant to college students worldwide. Community challenges or civic issues identified relate to access to basic services such as education; AI risks and threats; sustainability challenges, digital citizenship, and health communication.
Throughout the exercises envisages under the program, emphasis is placed on applying Communication Theory in understanding and solving civic issues in real-world contexts. Moreover, the interactive course practices and strengthens civic dialogue across cultures. The Cultural Exchange Program is a pilot project currently being implemented from February to May 2026 with no funding commitments made from both sides.
DHLO facilitates the class for free as part of its civic engagement program with possibility of funding for larger participation and impact following the completion of the first try out.
